We're Revamping Our Spotlight Program

For years, we have been offering our Spotlight series highlighting unique bargains in early U.S. gold and silver coins. Rare coins are one of the least volatile investments you can own, according to the Knight Frank Luxury Index, and the markets are still poised to boost the value of numismatic coins in the coming years. Our numismatic experts took care to select coins with the potential for growth for Spotlight.

With every offer, we provided in-depth information and analysis of a coin, or coin set, that we believed was of good value and put clients in a position to succeed in the future. The process of finding, selecting and obtaining coins for this program took months of work and effort before an offer was released. Every numismatic coin we offered was delivered in a protective case and certified by recognized professional coin grading services Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) or Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). Past offers can be found on our website here.

Often, we would refer to these coins as “sleepers”, uniquely positioned coins that were quite rare, but also quite cost-effective because the market had not yet “discovered” a unique aspect of the coins whether it was date, type, mint, or designation from a specific hoard.

However, you may have noticed that these offers have been less frequent over the past few years.

That’s because the rare coin market is changing.

In recent years, more common date numismatic coins have flooded onto the market due to sales from European banks and from large private investor collections hitting the market all at once. Our numismatic experts are telling us that there is still significant inventory of these coins in Europe for potential sale onto the market.

As a result, it has been more and more difficult to source “sleeper” coins… our Spotlight diamonds in the rough.

However, since the rare coin market is changing, Spotlight will be changing with it.

The rare coin market is still alive, but the focus has shifted for buyers and collectors. The part of the numismatic market that is currently active and thriving is the higher end rarities.

One of our resident experts, Doug Winters, recently shared this insight,

"My overall take on the market is that nice coins priced at $1,000 to around $25,000 are far more liquid than most people realize while rarities priced at $25,000 and up are stronger than they were earlier in the year."

As a result, our Spotlight program will pivot to focus on offering these higher end rarities.

We anticipate, at least through the end of this year, to share offers on premium (yet relatively affordable) higher end rarities. The quantities will be extremely limited, which makes each offer exponentially more exclusive, geared towards buyers and collectors looking for truly exceptional finds in the rare coin market.

Welcome to the new Spotlight.

We plan to deliver our first offer soon, so stay tuned!

Of course, we can still buy and sell the ever popular $20 Saints and Liberties of all denominations. We know our loyal clients have discovered the majesty of “big, bold gold” with the beautiful Liberty and Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle series, and we will continue to be able to offer them. Common date coins are plentiful, and current premiums position them favorably when compared with bullion pricing for the time being.

And… if you are looking for any other coins in particular, let us know so we can help you source them. In addition to the Spotlight Program, we’re happy to locate and obtain rare, U.S., and World numismatic coins for our clients, so if there’s a particular date set, mint type or ancient coin you desire, please feel free to give us a call or email us and our preferred client representatives would be delighted to assist you in building your collection.
